A Brand Photography Session for Lancaster Distilleries in Lancaster, PA

We really enjoy a good cocktail, especially in the summer, and Lancaster Distilleries makes some really incredible liquors so we thought it would be fun to showcase a couple of our favorites! The artwork on their labels is incredible, done by visual adventurer Scotty Reifsnyder, and made these bottles just that much more fun to shoot. If you’re a gin fan, their botanical gin with rose and geranium is the perfect summer afternoon refresher. If you live in or near Lancaster you must stop by (and grab a meal and a movie under the same roof at Zoetropolis Cinema and Stillhouse). If you’re not in the area, you should plan a trip! Lancaster is a great town with beautiful farmland all around, really amazing furniture (if you’re in the market), and you might catch a horse and buggy sighting.

Being able to describe a product through commercial branding photography is really important. We feel that telling the story of these products by including some of the liquor ingredients and highlighting the craft and small batch nature of the product, really brings a new life to the bottles and the brand. We sourced props to create a clean but casual vibe and used colors to compliment the labels, which helps make the compositions feel cohesive. We also wanted to shoot the single bottles in a way that made them pop, so we chose a darker background which helps the bottles and the labels stand out in a strong way.

We don’t take enough “behind the scenes” because we’re usually so focused on layout design and shooting, but we love to look back at the process that goes into our photos. So here are a few from this shoot.

We have a big studio in our finished garage where we do most of our product work, however, sometimes the good light is inside our house so we haul everything in to take advantage!
